Medium Goat Skin Medicine Bag + Maiz Ofrenda
Humans have been carrying relics since the beginning of time. Stones, herbs, bones, precious metals, carved statues — we’ve placed divine and practical significance on what we carry with us through this life and into the next.
This goat hide medicine amulet carries a hand dyed red-ochre draw string cotton bag. Some of our ancestors were Guachichiles from the mountains of the San Luis Potosi area in Mexico. They were known for wearing red ochre on their bodies and hair. Our use of red ochre honors our ancient connection to this mineral while serving as protection as we make our way down the Red Road.
Inside the draw string bag you’ll find blue maiz. We carry blue maiz as a representation of our own flesh. We come from long lineages of ancient farmers of maiz and harvestors of the wild teocintle. Our ancestors genetically altered the teocintle grass and turned it into a wide range of kinds of maiz. Which, in turn, have sustained our people across the Americas for so long. We honor and wear our people’s ingenuity proudly.
We’ve carefully placed a naturally dyed coyote foot bone to the front of this medicine bag, along with cattle bone beads — a representation of the natural need to roam the land. May this bag protected its wearer on along their journey.
This medicine bag is hand-made. The materials have been carefully prepared, cut, dyed, and sewn by us.
Materials: Goat hide, deer leather suede, cotton cord, cattle bone beads, naturally dyed coyote foot bone, naturally dyed red-ochre cotton pouch, blue maiz and sinew.
Made with care.
